Lochter wins Best Small Fishery in Scotland Title

A panel of contributors to the trout fisherman magazine have selected Lochter Fishery in Scotland as the winner. The panel was given the responsibility of selecting the hundred top fisheries in the UK and it was good to see several other North East Fisheries making it into the top selection. These are locations which go the extra mile to meet the needs of anglers young and old.

Lochter successfully hosted the 2013 Bank Fly Fishing International involving all four home countries, this was the first time the competition was held in Scotland and Lochter welcomed anglers from all over the UK thanks to the publicity generated by the event.

The cooler, wetter weather of the past few days may not have been good news for the commonwealth games athletes but it has been a godsend for Lochter anglers. Water temperatures have dropped from over 20 degrees to 16 degrees, which is an ideal fishing temperature. The fish have come to life and some excellent bags have been achieved.

David Pottinger from Shetland had twenty on a mix of white mini lures while Aberdeen angler Doug Mair had seventeen on slowly retrieved blobs. Keith Fraser had nine on the ever-effective yellow danger. Paul Sharp netted a dozen wing buzzers and dries while Bob Reynolds and Scott Sim had eleven each using dries, buzzers and snatchers. George Abel from Inverurie had a brilliant day with sixteen but the gold medal goes to Charlie McPhee from Peterhead who alternated between damsels and buzzers to record an impressive total of thirty five caught and released with his best fish weighing in at 8lbs plus.

The cooler weather is set to continue which is good news for anglers. They should have some excellent sport while it continues.
