Weekly Fishing Report - Once Again With Enthusiasm

A new year, a new season and the angling magazines are full of advice on how to catch more fish, what new wonder flies are out there, how the latest rods are a must have if you wish to be successful etc etc.
Most anglers being on the mature side don't fall for these blandishments, they have heard it all before but never the less there is always an air of excitement and expectation as a new season approaches. There are favourite venues to visit and old friends to meet, flies which have been tied over winter to try and perhaps if Santa has been kind some new kit to get an airing.

At Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum, there has been a steady procession of regulars keen to get out in the fresh air and exercise their arms with a fishing rod rather than another pint. On a pre Christmas foray B Ross had nine on an okay dokey and on Christmas Eve Paul Taylor tempted six on blobs and a montana. Peter Young was out on Hogmanay and had seven on a minkie and having got over his sair heid Doug Mair braved the chilly weather and caught and released eight using his favourite blobs.

The first competition of the year at Lochter is the Robbie Burns Pairs a very popular event scheduled for Burn's birthday the 25th January. As is the custom haggis neeps and tatties will be served at lunchtime. With the haggis being addressed prior in the traditional manner. Anglers wishing to compete should contact the fishery on 01651 872787 or 872000 or by e-mail to info@lochter.co.uk.
