Weekly Fishing Report - Autumn's Best of Cheer?

With the onset of September, I had hoped that the following verse would be apt for the time of year:- “By all these lovely tokens, September days are here. With Summer’s best of weather and Autumns best of cheer”.

However, how wrong can you be as a strong and cold northerly wind, for most of the week, put paid to any notions of an Indian Summer.

Nevertheless on the plus side, there were some very good catches during the week as the fish seemed to be feeding hard sensing the Winter ahead.

Lures proved popular, with S. Williams from Belvie getting 12 on the cat’s whisker, both Craig McLean and Peter Young had 11 each on the WSW with James McLean following behind with 9 on the same lure.

Looking through the returns book the other lures that proved effective were the nomad, semtex, bonny leech and blue tailed damsels.

Smaller flies were also used during the week and Roy Anderson had 12 on buzzers, John Tait had 8 on hoppers and cormorants, James Paton had 6 on bushy’s and snatchers and Bob Bruce from Newmachar had 6 on bibios and hoppers.

There is a saying that “the breath of life is in the sunlight and the hand of life is in the wind” then lets hope with a more favourable weather forecast for the week ahead that the sunlight is the winner.
