This Sunday, 29th October, see’s Lochter all set for the very popular Halloween Pairs Competition. It is hoped that all the eager entrants will be well rested after their extra hour in bed, courtesy of the clocks going back and this will ready them for the action and drama that will hopefully unfold. An added incentive this year is that there will be £250 in prize money split between the top 3 pairs, which is always helpful in funding that new bit of fishing gear you have had your eye on. The competition runs from 9.30am – 2pm and then we convene to have what was described as a ‘fiendishly fancy’ lunch in the bothy, followed by prize giving. All in all it should be a fun and friendly day out with like-minded fishing companions. It is not too late to enter the competition, all you need to do is call the bothy on 01651 872787 to secure your entry. If you don’t have a partner but want to take part then leave your name and telephone number and the fishery staff will do our best to get you teamed up.
On the fishing front, as per the last couple of week it is still very much the case that anything goes with both top of the water and sub surface methods working equally well.
Michael McPherson fished small CDC’s and snatchers and brought 19 fish to the net, Graham Robertson fished a traditional Kate McLaren and Bibio combination to get 15 fish and Simon Ruddiman also on the surface skilfully fished a team of dry flies and was rewarded with 14 fish. Peter Young, out on an all day session did consistently well and ended the day with 20 fish on a mixture of lures then buzzers, James West brought 14 fish to the net on a white fritz, M McLean used the bloodworm to good effect and got 14 fish and Les Greenlees fished the cats whiskers lure and landed 11 fish.
Peter Green from Huntly had two outings during the week and had 11 and 17 fish respectfully on the suspended buzzer and diawl bach, Graham Duthie had 10 fish using a variety of lures including the nomad and Albert Trail mopped up 10 fish on the mop fly.
The ‘Blobbly Boys’ – Dougie and Billy from Aberdeen didn’t disappoint and had 29 fish between them for their Saturday session, Matthew Reilly fresh from his efforts on the Ythan had 7 fish on the WSW and blob. Keith and Karen Fraser from Aberdeen have a very pleasant day out getting 4 and 6 fish respectively on diawl bachs and pheasant tail nymphs.
According to the latest weather forecast there is high pressure building for the weekend with some settled conditions arising, so that will be something of a novelty for us all to enjoy.
