Weekly Fishing Report - Hints of Spring at Lochter

At time of writing it is a steady 8 degrees with a light westerly wind and there are signs that the fish are at times even tempted to feed near the top of the water.

One does not want to tempt fate by mentioning the ‘Spring’ word but some of the wildlife at Lochter are showing signs that, for them, it might just be around the corner.

The blackbirds are engaged in outlandish fighting acrobatics, the ducks are smugly pairing up, the oyster catchers have returned and there is a constant flash of plumage as our kingfisher goes about its business patrolling our 3 Lochs with military precision.

On the fishing front, it was still mostly winter tactics that prevailed.

Graham Duthie used a variety of lures to tempt 15 fish to the net.

Ryan Thomson from Inverurie used a montana lure on an intermediate line to account for 12 fish, one being a nice 6lb fish.

Dougie Mair from Aberdeen had 11 fish, all taken using a variety of coloured blobs, Steve Prince refreshed after a holiday abroad, had 9 fish on a hares lug as well as small blade hoppers when the fish were seen to be feeding near the top.

Pete Green from Huntly was a model of consistency on his two outings when he caught 8 fish on both occasions using a hares lug and a black eyed pea lure.

It was all the 7’s for some anglers with Brain Ross getting this amount using lures, Peter Young using buzzers and Keith Robertson using stalking bugs.

A reminder that our next competition is the Spring Singles on Sunday 4th March with a 9.30am start.

There are plenty of prizes to be won and the entry fee is £20, which includes a fine lunch.

It is a very popular and friendly event so if you want to take part then make sure you register your name at the Bothy on 01651 872787.

Tight lines. SP 20/2/18.
