Weekly Fishing Report - Anglers Spring into Action

On Sunday the clocks sprung forward an hour into British Summer and with it we have had two very nice days of weather.

Anglers at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum have taken advantage of the improved conditions to “cast a cloot” although May’s not oot. (For information, the May referred to is the May tree, nothing to do with the month!)

They have also been able to cast some of their more delicate flies as more fish have been seen to be active in the top layers of the water.

I have done a Cambridge Analytica on the Lochter catch record and harvested the following information and statistics.

Steve Prince has shown consistent good form with scores of eighteen and twelve on his last two visits using his favoured cormorants and diawl bachs. Buzzers and cormorants were the successful flies for Paul Ingram who returned eleven nice fish, including a six pounder.

As the improving temperatures encouraged more fly life, buzzers have come into their own, particularly in the middle of the day. Peter Young used them to successfully tempt fifteen on the muckle trout lout and they appear in the most successful anglers reports. Peter Green returned nineteen on his two visits with bloodworms featuring prominently.

There is to be another cold snap this week then hopefully things will settle down in good time for the Springles (Spring Singles) competition on Sunday 8th April at 9.30am. This is a nice relaxed event with plenty of prizes to be won. Entry is £20, which includes lunch. Entries are still being accepted on 01651 872787 or 01651 872000.

HH 26/3/18.
